When you visit the Johnson Creek Tavern on Harbor Island, one of the very first things you’ll notice are all of the dollar bills covering the walls which are happily placed by visitors to the restaurant from all over the world. But, every so often, those dollars come down.
On Saturday, volunteers got together to take the dollar bills down and the proceeds were donated again to Honor Flight Savannah.
Honor Flight Savannah uses the proceeds to send Veterans of WWII, and the Korea and Vietnam wars to visit the memorials that have been erected in their honor in Washington, D.C.
What an amazing thing for the owners of JCT to do.
According to owner Jay Lloyd, the amount collected over the weekend should be more
than $11,000. The last time they took the bills down, it was over $17,000 that went to Honor Flight Savannah. The time before that, it was over $13,000.
“It’s always an honor to make a contribution to our Veterans,” Lloyd said. “We want to thank every one of our amazing customers for their donations.”
According to its website, Honor Flight Savannah’s next flights will take place from April 24 through 26th. The Savannah hub is one of 140 Honor Flight Network regional hubs across the United States.
To date, the network has escorted over 200,000 veterans, at no cost to them, to their memorials in our Nation’s capitol.
People helping people at JCT; just another reason that Beaufort SC is one of the best places in the world.
