In celebration of Beaufort’s longtime designation as a Tree City USA, the Beaufort Public Works Department is keeping the city green by planting two trees every month at various City of Beaufort properties.
Public Works will start this initiative by planting two live oaks in Christensen Park on Pigeon Point Road at 10am on Wednesday, February 24th.
The City of Beaufort is known for its extensive tree canopy, which comprises live oaks and many other types of trees.

According to Tree City USA website, “Trees can add value to your home, help cool your home and neighborhood, break the cold winds to lower your heating costs, and provide food for wildlife.” (Find out more about the positive impact of trees in communities here.)
The City of Beaufort works closely with local garden clubs on South Carolina Arbor Day celebrations each year, and most recently planted trees in Christensen Park and Morrall Park on Arbor Day last December.
“Our trees are important to everyone who lives or works or visits Beaufort. In fact, they make our city unique. We often replace trees that are damaged or die, but now we want to add to our urban forest by planting trees,” said Parks Supervisor Adam Wellins.
“Each month, we’ll offer tips for planting and caring for those particular trees,” Wellins added.
