After 16 years in business, local outdoor outfitter Higher Ground is permanently closing its doors to its Lady’s Island store.
In an announcement on its Facebook page on April 19, Higher Ground owner Tim Lovett gave everyone the news.
“After 16 incredible years of sharing adventures in the Lowcountry, itβs time to say goodbye,” Tim said in the posting.
“Iβm retiring from retail β which means Higher Ground Outfitters will be closing its doors for good.”
Offering a broad selection of trusted outdoor clothing, footwear, and gear, Higher Ground started out in a corner location at Beaufort Town Center in 2010 and then moved to Lady’s Island in 2017.
What began as a passion for kayaking, paddleboarding, camping, hiking, and exploring Beaufortβs marshes, creeks, and trails turned into so much more for Tim, he created a gathering spot for locals and visitors with endless stories, lessons, tours, gear that lasts, and, according to the man himself, “friendships that mean the world.”
One of the few places that you could rent a kayak and then walk 100 feet to put it in the water, at Factory Creek, Higher Ground will be missed by many locals and visitors alike.
“Thank you for every visit, every rental, every sunrise paddle, every…moment. Youβve been the heart of this place,” Tim said.
Closing details:
β’ Final day open: May 31st or until store is sold out.
β’ Location: 95 Factory Creek Ct, Beaufort, SC 29907
β’ Hours (until closing): MonβSat 10 AMβ6 PM | Sun 1β4 PM
The store is running a big retirement & store-closing sale right now with deep discounts on kayaks, SUPs, paddles, camping gear, apparel, footwear, and more.
“The Lowcountryβs beauty and spirit of adventure arenβt going anywhere β keep getting out there, stay safe on the water, respect our marshes and trails, and make more memories,” Tim added.
And, he’s right.
“Itβs been an absolute honor serving you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Adventure awaits β go find it!”
