LongHorn Steakhouse to open in Beaufort in January
Robert Smalls Parkway is about to become a little bit busier….and a lot more tastier.
Longhorn Steakhouse is setting up shop across the highway from Lowe’s Home Improvement in a newer development that will also see a car dealership, some commercial spaces and offices including a new Aspen Dental office.
According to the site superintendent, construction is expected to finish in the coming weeks and the restaurant is expected to open in January, and we’ll have another restaurant to enjoy here in town.
The 5,500 square-foot restaurant will employ 35 people and have about 180 seats, according to a letter written to city planning officials by Phil Warren Jr., of Warren Commercial Real Estate.
Some of LongHorn’s signature items include “fresh, never frozen,” grilled steaks including an “Outlaw Ribeye” and 30-ounce “Porterhouse for Two.” The menu offers other dishes as well. Among them are ribs, chicken, salmon, lobster, shrimp and salads.
LongHorn is a casual dining chain owned and operated by Darden Restaurants. Darden operates Olive Garden and Red Lobster, which both had a short presence in Beaufort a few years back.
Other businesses coming
New businesses are set to open up in Beaufort Town Center as the conversion of the KMart building is moving along at a good pace.
Two new eateries are among the businesses going into the subdivided former department store. Hank’s Lowcountry She Crab Soup plans to open in the fall according to owner Hank Yaden. Hank’s is a popular pop-up frequently seen at local farmers markets and festivals offering lots of Lowcountry favorites, crabcakes and some seriously good she crab soup.
The Cracked Egg, which also has other locations in Port Royal, Okatie, and Charleston will be joining Hank’s and taking over the area that used to be the Lawn & Garden Center at the department store.
Another new tenant will be Rotten Little Bastard Distillery. RLB will start out featuring locally made rum. Look for bourbon and additional spirits to come from RLB over time because, according to the owners, “bourbon takes time to age.”
Also look for Moss & Hatchet to open as well. Beaufort will be home to its very own axe throwing facility where you can enjoy a few beers and throw a few axes as two veterans, Nicholas Price and Henry Dreier, are bringing the World Axe Throwing League to the Beaufort area.
And, Grounded Running, a shoe store, has already opened its doors after moving into the building from its former location in Shell Point; as has Wild Birds Unlimited, whose new owners are ready to show you how to turn your yard into a bird feeding habitat that not only brings song, color and life to your home, but also benefits the wild birds and the environment in your area.
