Grab the kids and pay a visit to Brendlen’s Lowcountry Christmas Light Display and take in some holiday cheer this season.

Growing each year since the mid-1990s, the Brendlen family has put on a big show for everyone to see with more than 100,000 lights and over 100 yard displays to enjoy on their 5 acre property in Ridgeland. The family begins working to put together the displays in October, working over the weekends and some nights to get everything ready by Thanksgiving.

It’s a family tradition.

And…it’s free; with the exception of any donations you can make so the Brendlens can help someone in need. Also, you can contribute by purchasing concessions and t-shirts.Lowcountry Christmas light display helps families of fallen first responders

Although this is its 25th year, the family started accepting donations for locals in need in 2009.

“We have always used our display as a way to give back to a family that has had a difficult year,” said Chelsea Brendlen. “This year we will be raising money for the families of four local first responders who recently lost their lives.”

“This hits close to home for me, I’m a dispatcher with Jasper county and my son Johnny is a firefighter/EMT with the Burton Fire District. Also, my daughter, Allison, worked with Jasper County Fire & Rescue and worked with both Brian Mixon and Coleman Loadholt. And, my other daughter Ashley is a volunteer with the Ridgeland Fire Department. Additionally, my son in law, Bill Hiers, is a full time firefighter in Ridgeland.

“The funds raised will greatly help the families, Chelsea added.

Activities at the display this year include a visit from Santa on December 4th and December 11th, with hot chocolate, desserts and fun activities for the kids including ornament decorating, cookie decorating and face painting.

Like 2020 was, 2021 has been a rough year on everyone, especially on children. It’s really nice to see that folks like the Brendlens are helping to maintain some semblance of normalcy.
