Grab the kids and pay a visit to Brendlen’s Lowcountry Christmas Light Display and take in some holiday cheer this season.

Growing each year since the mid-1990s, the Brendlen family has put on a big show for everyone to see with more than 100,000 lights and over 100 yard displays to enjoy on their 5 acre property in Ridgeland. The family begins working to put together the displays in October, working over the weekends and some nights to get everything ready by Thanksgiving.

It’s a family tradition.

And…it’s free; with the exception of any donations you can make so the Brendlens can help someone in need. Also, you can contribute by purchasing concessions and t-shirts.

Although this is its 27th year, the family started accepting donations for locals in need in 2009.

“We have always used our display as a way to give back to a family that has had a difficult year,” said Chelsea Brendlen.

Caring Hearts Of South Carolina is a local non-profit organization started by the Brendlen’s with a mission to help fill the needs of families who are dealing with a critical illness or serious injury.

This year, the display is helping by collecting donations for the family of Revel Crosby. Revel was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The family is no stranger to helping out the community. Chelsea is a dispatcher with Jasper County Emergency Services. Her son is a firefighter/EMT with the Burton Fire District. One of her daughters has worked with Jasper County Fire & Rescue, while another is a volunteer with the Ridgeland Fire Department. Additionally, her son in law is a full time firefighter in Ridgeland.

The display is located at 1570 Driggers Lane, just down the road in Ridgeland. Find it on a map here.

Activities at the display this year include a visit from Santa on December 16th with hot chocolate, food & desserts and fun activities for the kids including train rides, ornament decorating, cookie decorating and face painting.
