In a ceremony last weekend, LowCountry Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 53rd home build, located at 53 Vineyard Point Road, and officially turned over the keys of the new home to the Simmons family.

The home build, named Brays Island 2, was fully funded by donations from local residents and partners on Brays Island.

With the support of the Beaufort community working together to make this project a reality, the Brays Island 2 Build provides a hand-up to homeownership to Habitat Family Partner, Denise Simmons,” Lowcountry Habitat said in a release. “Denise and her daughter Jamie will be moving into their new home just in time for the Christmas Holiday.”

An excited crowd of approximately 50 people attended the dedication ceremony. Attendees were introduced to the Simmons family and learned the story behind this home.

Reverend Abraham Murray from Brick Baptist Church provided the home blessing. The Bible and keys to the home were presented by Bruce Connell.

“This home is possible due to the generosity of the residents of the Brays Island Community, Brays Island and the continued support from our partners,” the release said. “Special thanks are extended to all our Brays Island 2 Home partners including Coastal Community Foundation, Hargray Caring Coins, United Way of the Lowcountry, Pepsi, Beaufort Surveying, JHN – Residential Building Design and Mussell-Built Structural Engineering.”

“This home marks the beginning of our new relationship working with AMI Kids to volunteer on the construction of our homes.  AMI Kids Executive Director, Matthew Kingdom as well as number of those that volunteered were present for the dedication on Saturday.”

Huge congrats to the Simmons family on achieving their dream of home ownership and we all wish the family a bright future in their new home.

“LowCountry Habitat would also like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Beaufort Community for the years of support that have led us to being able to complete our 53rd home build. We know that we are only able to accomplish our mission of building affordable sustainable housing for low income families as a result of the support of our community.”
