Lowcountry Pro Rodeo coming to St. Helena Island

Everyone loves a rodeo, and Dempsey Farms on St. Helena Island has just announced that the farm will be hosting the first ever St. Helena Island Lowcountry Pro Rodeo coming up this fall.

Dempsey’s announced two big days of fun on the farm in November with bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and lots more.

Fun for all ages, rodeos are very popular sports with horse roping, horse and bull riding, and more. It shows old skills from working on ranches, and some of those skills are still used today.

For those northern transplants who may be a bit unfamiliar, there are lots of fun events in a rodeo; and three highlighted events at the upcoming Lowcountry Pro Rodeo are:

Bull riding: Riders try to stay on a big, strong bull for eight seconds.
Barrel racing: Horses and riders run fast around barrels in a clover shape.
Roping: Cowboys catch calves with a rope very quickly.

The event is organized and held by Southern Rodeo Company, a family-owned business from Georgia that has been bringing rodeos and related events to life for the past 30+ years. Some events at their rodeos include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-downroping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, team roping, bull riding, slack.

Tickets for the first ever St. Helena Island Lowcountry Pro Rodeo will be on sale soon, and are only $25 each, with children 4 & under admitted free of charge. The event is scheduled for November 6th & November 7th at Dempsey Farms, 1576 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena Island.
