New construction, growth booming in Beaufort

The Beaufort area is growing at a fast pace and the same can be said for the city as well. According to a release by the City of Beaufort, new construction had its strongest year yet in the city in 2019, showing growth booming in Beaufort.

Permits were issued for a total of 142 single-family and multifamily homes or apartments, while eight commercial buildings were approved.

This represents a 100% increase in residential units compared to the previous year. The total value of commercial development was $44 million, and residential construction was almost $22 million.

Lots of new construction projects are going on all over Beaufort.

The City approved 50 single-family home permits, and 92 multifamily units, or a total of nine apartment buildings.

The commercial buildings included Longhorn Steakhouse, which is scheduled to open in Beaufort on Robert Smalls Parkway on Jan. 28. The 111-room Springhill Suite Hotel, under construction on Boundary Street, is expected to open later this year. There is also a new multi-use office building nearly completed on Ribaut Road at Spanish Point, among many others. (see cover photo)

The residential multifamily side of new construction in the city includes Pine Court Apartments and Ribaut Senior Living, both on Ribaut Road.

A total of 1,155 construction permits were approved in 2019. Total revenue from permits was $462,884, including $281,000 in new construction permits.

In new construction, growth is certainly booming in Beaufort and our town is growing at a fairly rapid rate.
