The City of Beaufort will soon be replacing the aging playground equipment at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park – and it’s seeking input from the community as it begins the process.
The current Beaufort waterfront playground was installed in 2006, when Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park was renovated. “Playground equipment, like everything else, has a shelf life,” said Downtown Operations Director Linda Roper. “This equipment needs to be repaired more often, and parts are getting harder to find.”
“Over the years, thousands of kids have had a fun time on this playground. Now it’s time to figure out what new equipment will be most appealing to our kids – and their parents,” she said.
The City is conducting a survey about the Beaufort waterfront playground, which will be posted on its website, and social media accounts over the next several weeks.
Additionally, the City is hosting a Community Input Forum at 6 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the City Hall Planning Conference Room, 191 Boundary Street, Beaufort. All are welcome to attend and families are encouraged to bring children so their input can be considered.
Roper said new playground equipment is expected to cost $250,000-$300,000. Once the new equipment is selected, installation is expected to take four to six weeks.
