The annual New Year’s Day Pirate Plunge is coming to the Sands Beach in Port Royal.

The event, sponsored in part by the folks at ShellRing Ale Works, is open to everyone…and you don’t have to dress like a pirate if you don’t want to.

The festivities start after 11am on New Years Day with the plunge into the water coming shortly thereafter, at Noon.

The cost to take the plunge is a donation of $10 that goes directly to CAPA Beaufort supporting one of their “Dancing With Our Stars” event teams.

Prizes will be awarded at the event with a $50 gift card to ShellRing Ale Works going to the best dressed pirate and everyone who takes part in the plunge will get a token for ShellRing and is invited for an oyster roast afterward.

Started a few years ago, the Pirate Plunge was an event supported and celebrated by the Port Royal Community Beer Garden at The Sands in Port Royal. Now it’s supported by ShellRing Ale Works, who invites you to stop by and use your token and to enjoy an oyster roast after the event.

The water temperature will be in the low 60s, so it’s easy-peasy to take a quick dip and support the kids at CAPA.

“If you’ve never hit the water at The Sands,” ShellRing Ale Works’ owner and Community Beer Garden founder, Nick Borreggine, warns you…”please wear shoes.”

He’s right. All of the oyster shells in the water along the shoreline make sure there’s a reason for that.
