If you listen to the predictions for this winter from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, it’ll be a cold and potentially snowy one in the southeastern U.S., including in South Carolina.
The prediction for this winter says that temperatures are expected to be “near normal to slightly milder across much of the U.S.,” but colder than average in the Appalachians, the Southeastern states, Florida, and the Ohio Valley.
It forecasts snowfall to be “near or below normal for most areas,” although it expects heavier snow for the Carolinas, southern Appalachians, eastern Ohio Valley, southern Rockies, and eastern Desert Southwest.
The almanac warns of colder-than-normal winter in these parts, with some snowy surprises in the southeast, telling folks to prepare for heating needs and occasional travel delays, especially before the holidays.

Published since 1792, The Old Farmer’s Almanac claims to be the oldest continuously published periodical in the U.S.
The publication explains that its forecasts are developed using insights from three scientific disciplines: solar science, climatology, and meteorology. Solar science involves analyzing sunspots and other solar activity, while climatology focuses on weather patterns, and meteorology studies atmospheric conditions.
If these predictions hold any weight with you, then you’d better keep the boots, hats and gloves handy after you’re done celebrating the New Year. The Farmers’ Almanac says that you may end up needing to put them to good use.
