Join in the fun with Friends of Hunting Island at the annual Pelican Plunge into the (semi) cold water at Hunting Island Beach on New Year’s Day.
A fun event that supports taking care of the state park, the Pelican Plunge is in its 14th year with hundreds of “plungers” enjoying the semi-cold water temps in the low 60s. (easy peasy!)
Everyone meets at the pavilion at the lighthouse on North Beach. Come early and enjoy the
pre-plunge festivities. Everyone can enjoy beverages, snacks, and the traditional fun costume parade—which gets more outrageous every year.
- Registration starts at 12 Noon, Plunge at 1 PM
- Register online and receive your ticket via email
- Food Trucks will be on site
- Souvenir Pelican Plunge T-shirts will be on sale at the gift shop
- Park entry fee is not included in the registration fee, but January 1, 2024 is the last day to use your 2023 Friends of Hunting Island decal for park entry
- You can purchase your Friends of Hunting Island 2024 membership and parking decal at the Pelican Plunge
Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The Pelican Plunge is one of our favorite annual events and hundreds take the plunge each year. Tax deductible proceeds benefit Hunting Island State Park’s beach and trail maintenance and wildlife habitats and conservation, including the sea turtle program.
It’s so much fun to gather at the beach and take a dip with hundreds of friends.
