If you’re a Beaufort local then you’ve most likely enjoyed the little duck pond at the intersection of Battery Creek Road and First Boulevard in Mossy Oaks.

After years of problems with flooding for area residents, the tidal pond received some major upgrades via the big Mossy Oaks Drainage Project that was completed last year. Now, the neighborhood pond is looking a lot more inviting after the city gave it a bit of a facelift over the past weeks.

Parks staff from the Public Works Department recently completed new landscaping at the pond.

Workers added two 4-foot benches, concrete pads to anchor the benches, and two picnic tables – allowing neighbors and visitors to better enjoy the peaceful setting.

“When we touch something, our goal is to make it look better and function better,” said Public Works Director Nate Farrow.

The new landscaping included two crape myrtles and new flower beds. The total cost of the project was $2,411.

If you visit, please use caution while enjoying the serene surroundings. Locals visiting the pond over the past few months have noticed a new resident alligator there, too. It’s the first time we’ve ever heard of one living in the pond.
