If you shop at the BI-LO on Parris Island Gateway in the Shell Point area, you’ll soon see some changes. Port Royal BI-LO sold to Food Lion, and changes are coming.

On Wednesday, Food Lion announced the largest acquisition in its history: the purchase of 62 BI-LO and Harveys Supermarket stores across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, including the location in Port Royal.

The stores will continue to operate as BI-LO for now, but, once the sale is complete the stores will be re-branded and operated as Food Lions.

Food Lion is planning to hire 4,650 associates across the 62 stores, adding to the 42,000 associates who currently work for Food Lion in Georgia and the Carolinas.

In addition to the stores, BI-LO operator Southeastern Grocers has agreed to transition a distribution center in Mauldin, South Carolina, which will support the newly acquired stores and Food Lion’s current network of stores. The transaction is expected to close next year; in the interim, the stores will continue to be operated by the current owner, Southeastern Grocers.

“We are so excited to add these new locations to our more than 630 stores across Georgia and the Carolinas,” a spokesperson for BI-LO said in a release.

“We’ve been serving customers in these larger regions for almost 60 years. We’re thrilled to add these locations and serve even more towns and cities across these three states with fresh, quality products at affordable prices every day with the caring, friendly service customers expect from their local Food Lion.”

Look for the changeover to Food Lion early next year.
