In a recent study recently released before this summer by popular website safewise.com ranking the safest cities in South Carolina, Bluffton came in at a very impressive #1 on the list and on this side of the Broad River Bridge, Port Royal came in at #9.
Each year, SafeWise experts dig into data to see which cities report the fewest crimes in every state, and utilizes other sources into studies to help you understand what it’s like to live in different communities across the country.
This is no big surprise. We’ve known that Port Royal is a fantastic, and safe place to call home, and it always has been. In fact, most of the Beaufort area is pretty safe and a great place to live, work and to raise a family, too.
According to safewise.com, South Carolina is just as concerned about crime and safety as is the rest of the country, and its safest cities collectively boast crime rates well below national averages. But statewide, safewise.com says there’s more crime reported in The Palmetto State than the rest of the US.
Violent crime in South Carolina increased again this year—rising just slightly—it went up from 5.3 incidents per 1,000 people in 2022 to 5.5 in 2023. Property crime continued a downward trend.
In the South Atlantic region, South Carolina has the highest rates of violent and property crime, ahead of Delaware for violent crime and North Carolina for property crime.
South Carolina’s crime rates are higher than the national rate. Across all 50 states, South Carolina has the seventh-highest rate of violent crime, down from the sixth-highest last year, and the tenth-highest rate of property crime, which has dropped signifigantly from the fifth-highest in 2022.
We’re glad to know that both Bluffton and Port Royal are among the safest.
