Port Royal, Bluffton ranked among safest cities in South Carolina

In a recent study recently released by popular website safewise.com ranking the safest cities in South Carolina, Bluffton came in at #5 on the list and on this side of the Broad River Bridge, Port Royal came in at #7.

Each year, SafeWise experts dig into data to see which cities report the fewest crimes in every state, and utilizes other sources into studies to help you understand what it’s like to live in different communities across the country.

This is no big surprise. We’ve known that Port Royal is a fantastic, and safe place to call home, and it always has been. In fact, most of the Beaufort area is pretty safe and a great place to live, work and to raise a family, too.

According to safewise.com, South Carolina is just as concerned about crime and safety as is the rest of the country, and its safest cities collectively boast crime rates well below national averages. But statewide, safewise.com says there’s more crime reported in The Palmetto State than the rest of the US.

Violent crime in South Carolina decreased this past year—just slightly—as 9% of South Carolinians said they experienced a violent crime in the 8 months prior to the survey, down from 17% the year before. Property crime has also continued a downward trend.

South Carolina’s crime rates are higher than the national rate. Across all 50 states, South Carolina’s violent crime rate is about 29% higher than the national average, and its property crime rate is 14.4% higher.

We’re glad to know that both Bluffton and Port Royal are among the safest.
