S.C. state parks to increase admission fees in new year

Starting January 1st, 2020, the price for admission to some S.C. state parks, including Hunting Island, will be increasing.

Admission for Hunting Island will be raised from $5 to $8 for adults. Seniors will see an increase from $3.25 to $5, and the price for children aged 6 to 15 years old will go from 3 to $4. Kids under 5 will still get in free.

Park Passports, which are good for a full year and allow entry to any S.C. state park, will increase to $99, but you can still save for next year by purchasing a passport under the current rate of $75 through December 31st of this year.

Despite bringing in record revenue for the second year in a row, raking in around $37.4 million in the last fiscal year, there are numerous reasons for the price increase at many of our state parks.

Hunting Island needs some improvements.

On the table for the next two years are a beach renourishment project and a lighthouse renovation project. Also in the works are repairing and rebuilding the popular fishing pier still left damaged by Hurricane Matthew, paving the roads and making several other improvements as well.

While the price may be going up, we hope you share our sentiment that $8 is still a small price to pay to enjoy a day of sunshine while surrounding yourself with the beauty of our natural beach.

It’s well worth it.
