Beaufort’s popular Spanish Moss Trail was applauded by the folks at Parade Magazine who named it the Best Hiking Trail in the Palmetto State.
Parade.com bestowed the honor on Beaufort’s 10 mile long multi-use trail in a March 13th publication titled “50+ Greenways Across America: The Very Best Hiking Trails, Outdoor Art and More From Every State.”
“Located in the heart of Northern Beaufort County on the historic Magnolia Line railroad, this paved trail is a beautiful half-day walk,” Parade said.
“But…you won’t want to miss the spectacular Lowcountry water and marsh views, coastal wildlife and historic points of interest as it meanders through Spanish moss–draped neighborhoods.”
They described the trail perfectly.
The trail is a popular spot for locals and visitors and it gets lots of use. At 10 miles now, when fully developed it will be approximately 16 miles in length.
Parade pulled together more than 50 of the best, at least one from each state and the Spanish Moss Trail is in good company on the list with other popular greenways around the country. The list includes the Mount Vernon Trail in Virginia and the Grand Canyon Greenway Trail in Arizona. Also mentioned are Atlanta’s BeltLine and the American Tobacco Trail in North Carolina…all getting the nod in their respective states.
Greenways, beltways, hiking trails, walkways or bike paths—they go by different names and are different lengths. But they all give us ways to get out and exercise, to play, to walk the dog or commute safely and to explore an area’s scenery, geography, history and culture.
The Spanish Moss Trail gives us all of that, and lots more.
