Locals have been talking on social media over the past few days asking why the strange noises are filling the sky over Beaufort, coming from the Marine Corps Air Station.

It’s actually the U.S. Army.

Bet you didn’t expect to hear that.

In a press release issued by MCAS Beaufort, it’s the 75th Ranger Regiment of the U.S. Army Special Ops that’s causing the irregular activity.

According to the release, an element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command is conducting a routine military training exercise on the air station, resulting in irregular noise and aircraft activity during the late evening and early morning hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The Rangers are using training ammunition and other training devices to make the exercise as real as possible. There will be periods of increased air traffic to include low-flying helicopters, tilt-rotar aircraft, and airplanes during hours of darkness.

The community can expect to experience an increase in air traffic and noise associated with a large-scale airborne operation.

The release continues to say that this is routine training conducted periodically to maintain a high level of readiness for the military personnel involved. “Every measure to reduce the amount of noise associated with the training will be taken. We appreciate the support of the residents and community in the surrounding areas during this training.”

“The 75th Ranger Regiment is a lethal, agile, and versatile special operations force that conducts forcible entry operations and special operations raids across the entire spectrum of combat. Tough realistic military exercises conducted regularly provide the Rangers a unique edge for real-world missions.”
