As Colonial Pipeline works to handle a cyber attack that has put their operations on pause, many drivers are wondering if it will cause a gas shortage. We’ve received numerous messages here at Explore Beaufort from concerned travelers worried about the fuel supply and a gas shortage in the Beaufort area.

As of now, there don’t seem to be too many problems in the local area, but that can always change. We found gas at nearly every single station we visited in Beaufort on Tuesday afternoon, with the exception of the Murphy’s Express station at the Lady’s Island WalMart.

You can visit GasBuddy.com to see how things are and to keep up on the gas supply and check for a shortage in Beaufort County.

β€œGasoline is going to start flowing here later this week,” said GasBuddy.com. “There’s no need to go out and fill your tanks up because gasoline is going to be available soon.”

The Colonial Pipeline expects to have things running again by the weekend. For now, drivers are advised not to panic.

GasBuddy says that we may see slightly higher prices but hopefully motorists are able to conserve gasoline. If you don’t absolutely need to travel, don’t.

Colonial Pipeline delivers about 45% of the fuel consumed on the East Coast and experts say you should not rush out to buy gas right now if you don’t absolutely need it. Hoarding gas could cause a shortage, in Beaufort or anywhere else.
