Did you know that you can rent Ted Turner’s house on St. Phillips Island from the S.C. Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism? Heck, you can rent the house and the WHOLE ISLAND if you want to.
The primitive barrier island was purchased from Turner by the state for $4.9 million in early 2018 and is a living example of the future of the eroding coast, complete with deer, alligators, gray and black fox squirrels and even tabby ruins, all nestled among pine trees and hardwood maritime forests blanketed with resurrection ferns.
The island is open for guided day tours, and officials with the S.C. State Parks are making sure their investment pay off, and have been renting the huge house for the past 2 1/2 years now.
According to the S.C. State Parks website, the house was built with materials brought over by boat and was constructed shortly after Ted Turner purchased the island in 1979.
The house is 3,350 square feet with five bedrooms and five baths, with one master bedroom, four other bedrooms, five baths, a dining room/game room, den, fully equipped kitchen, living room, large screened porch and deck.
The Turner House accommodates 10 guests. It features one master bedroom and bathroom plus an additional guest bathroom on the main floor, and four additional bedrooms and three bathrooms upstairs. A living room, kitchen, bar area, convertible dining room/game room, and den are also located on the main floor, plus an expansive 820-square-foot screened porch with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
It also offers amenities including a pool table, fishing pier, kayaks, fishing gear, golf carts and lots more.
The price for both standard rental and exclusive rental of the Turner house and for the whole island?
$12,000 for a standard (minimum) 5 night stay…and that will get you the house.
The entire island is also available for rental at $20,000 per minimum 5 night stay. And, it comes with optional Park Ranger led programs, too.
Visit the S.C. State Parks website to see all of the information on booking St. Phillips Island and the rental of the Turner house.
