The Beaufort SC area is known for its many golf courses. All year round, golf lovers in our coastal community can be found teeing off on their favorite green. These championship links present a rigorous challenge for avid golfers and novice players, alike. And now, two of our local spots are receiving some much deserved attention from GolfPass, a popular website dedicated to finding the best golf courses, instruction, entertainment and travel information.

On its just published list of the 25 Best golf Courses in South Carolina, two local gems here in Beaufort SC were on it.

Coming in at #9 on the list of 25 is Legends at Parris Island. At 18 holes and a par 72, Legends is an older course, having first been built in the late 1940s, but it plays like a turn of the century championship course.  Nestled in the center of Parris Island, an 8,000 acre sea island that is home to the Marine Corps and surrounded by beauty and history, the general public is welcomed at Legends. And, it gets great reviews.

Coming in at an impressive #5 on the list is Ocean Point at Fripp Island. The private, 18 hole, par 72 course is one of the reasons so many golfers visit the Beaufort area, and why many decide to relocate here and call it their new home.

Complete with one of the best and most scenic ocean views you’ll ever find while golfing, Ocean Point is right in the middle of a designated wildlife sanctuary with more than 175 species of birds living along the ocean and Great Salt Marsh, deer, alligators and more.

Another course making the list is Hilton Head’s Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort. Coming in at #10, the southern Beaufort County spot is constantly ranked one of the best courses in the area and in the U.S. The course was designed by Pete Dye, with help from Jack Nicklaus, and it is touted as one of his finest courses.

The annual Golfers’ Choice lists generated by GolfPass are compiled by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of the community throughout the year. They use GolfPass’ Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course’s subcategory averages.
