The new Whitehall Park on Lady’s Island officially opened its front gate to the public on Monday, and we couldn’t be more happier.
The 10 acre park, with 8 of its acres devoted to a nature preserve area, is the centerpiece of the new 20 acre Whitehall development that is going up around it.
Recent reports said the neighborhood development calls for eight town homes, 16 single-family homes, three larger river homes, four garden cottages on 10 additional acres.
The beautiful new pet friendly park boasts picnic tables set under centuries-old live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, a walking path which is lighted at night, restrooms, plenty of green space, and benches for relaxation and for viewing wildlife and the amazing sunset views over the marshes and the Beaufort River.
A key piece is the walking trail that leads to a pedestrian bridge connecting the park with the Woods Memorial Bridge and downtown Beaufort, which allows people to take a leisurely walk to and from the park and downtown. This extends the walkability of the city of Beaufort to the new park and planned neighborhood on Lady’s Island.
We are really happy to see that this beautiful new park is added to the many amazing green spaces that folks living in Beaufort can enjoy. Beaufort boasts over 20 local parks for its residents to enjoy….and that sure helps make Beaufort SC an appealing place to call home.
The local organization, Friends of Whitehall Park, was established to give local folks a voice into how things were developed. The City of Beaufort provides maintenance of the property, as per the terms of the lease agreement.
