Firefighters pulled a woman from the water after she jumped off of the downtown Beaufort day dock into the Beaufort River and was being carried away by the incoming tide on Wednesday evening.
According to an article in the Beaufort Gazette, it was reported that a call came into authorities around 6pm on Wednesday that said a woman had jumped into the river from the Woods Memorial Bridge.
It was determined by officials with the Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department that the woman actually jumped into the river from the downtown day dock, which is accessible from Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, the article said.
A firefighter saw her in the water being carried down the river to the other side of the bridge, and three firefighters, Jason Garber, Zakary Morgan and Gerald LaHay all jumped in the water from a private dock and were able to bring the woman ashore using a rescue rope, according to the article.
Lady’s Island-St. Helena Fire District firefighters and Beaufort Water Search and Rescue volunteers assisted the rescue by boat.
