Accomplished Ukrainian concert violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv will be performing in the Chamber Music series at the USCB Center for the Arts on Sunday, March 6th.
Born in Ukraine, and an advocate for world peace, Ms. Ivakhiv is an accomplished concert violinist, chamber musician, collaborator, educator, and champion of new music. Concertizing internationally, her wide range of repertoire includes the premiere of numerous new works for violin.
Hailed by critics for her “crystal clear and noble sound” (Culture and Life, Ukraine), she enjoys an international career as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America, and China.
With the echoes of war in her home country, Ms. Ivakhiv will be making her Beaufort debut on Sunday, March 6 at 5pm at USCB Center for the Arts.
“We would also like to mention that Ms. Ivakhiv is a native of Ukraine with family and friends still there,” USCB said in a press release. “If appropriate, we may recognize the heroic efforts of the Ukrainian citizens during Sunday’s concert.”
Her solo album, Ukraine: Journey to Freedom – A Century of Classical Music for Violin and Piano, was featured in the Top 5 New Classical Releases on the iTunes billboard.
Last year, she received the HONORED ARTIST OF UKRAINE award. The Ukrainian government, on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, recognized Solomiya’s contribution to promoting Ukrainian culture in Ukraine and abroad.
Ms. Ivakhiv showcases the poetic and rhapsodic style of Ukrainian, American, British, and French composers on her soon-to-be-released album Poems and Rhapsodies. The album includes American Rhapsody, a lyrical romance for violin and orchestra portraying the beauty of the American landscape written by Grammy winning-composer and fellow UConn professor Kenneth Fuchs.
Wouldn’t it be great if we packed the house and showed Ms. Ivakhiv that we are supportive of her fellow Ukrainian people during their time of great struggle?
