The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of children’s cancer research
grants, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Shellring Ale Works on Sunday, November 2nd, where more than 20 volunteers will shave their heads to raise money for lifesaving childhood cancer research.

Port Royal’s “BUZZ & BREWS” is the first St. Baldrick’s Foundation event ever held in the Lowcountry. Organizer Jaye Winemiller, first braved the shave in 2015 as a college freshman. Now to commemorate her 30th birthday, she is asking for 30 people to participate with a fundraising goal of $30,000.

“I braved the shave with St. Baldrick’s as a college freshman in honor of a few friends who had battled cancer when we were younger,” Jaye said. “The statistics show 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer won’t make it to their 30th birthday, so here we are ten years later on my 30th birthday I find myself to drawn to the same calling in their memory,” she added.

Other notable shavee’s include Philip Cromer – Mayor of Beaufort; Kevin Phillips – Mayor of Port Royal; and Dusty Vickers – Commodore of next year’s 70th Annual Beaufort Water Festival.

“I thought this was such a great idea when Jaye first mentioned it to me, said Kevin Phillips, Mayor of Port Royal. “I knew immediately I wanted to be a part of it. If a simple head shave can have any positive impact on helping a child in need, then I’m all for it.”

This should be real good!

The event will feature live music, raffles, food and drink, and all ages are welcome.

Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and in the U.S. one in five kids diagnosed won’t survive. Even for kids who do survive, by the time they’re 50, more than 99% have had a chronic health problem and 96% have experienced severe or life-threatening conditions.

In the U.S., 1 in 5 will not survive. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, has awarded more than $368 million to researchers to Conquer Kids’ Cancer.

When you give to St. Baldrick’s, you don’t just give to one hospital – you support every institution with the expertise to treat kids with cancer across the U.S. St.
Baldrick’s ensures that children fighting cancer now — and those diagnosed in the future — will have access to the most cutting-edge treatment, by supporting every stage of research, from new ideas in the lab to the training of the next generation of researchers, to lifesaving clinical trials.
