Yes, you read that right. After being closed for over a year, Beaufort’s favorite confectionery will be reopening, after a few changes are made.
The announcement comes as new owners, Tim & Deanna Green, plan out the next steps in what will be the new Chocolate Tree generation. Tim is one of the original owners of the shop, and the oldest son of founder, Pat Green.
“We plan to reopen The Chocolate Tree this fall,” Tim said in an interview. “We’re shooting for sometime in September to reopen, offering the same great everything, along with a great, updated new look,” he said.
Much to the dismay of many, the store closed its doors on May 30, 2025.
Tim said the building and store at 507 Carteret Street in historic downtown will undergo some renovations and updates, but customers will enjoy the same great ‘everything’ that they had grown to love over the years.
“We’ll have some new things coming out, while still offering the seasonal confections that our generations of customers have grown to love,” Tim said.
According to Tim, the plan is to keep things the way they have always been, still offering their famous caramel apples and chocolate covered local strawberries in-season, along with the traditional holiday treats we all remember at Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.
The new Chocolate Tree will also offer tours, and chocolate-making classes, as well as offering online sales and shipping of certain products.
“Also, we can’t wait to bring back All You Can Eat Chocolate Nights.”
Those popular late-summer nights were another idea of Pat Green, where you could purchase a ticket and just enjoy everything they had to offer until your belly said βthat is enough.β
Opened in 1980 originally as a hobby by Pat, the local confectionery has been a staple in town ever since, has enjoyed nationwide status, and has been known for some of the finest chocolates in the South.
Several generations of locals and tens of thousands of tourists have made their way through the doors of the business over the past 45 years, and itβs where Paramount Pictures got the iconic box of chocolates for the movie Forrest Gump.
You will again be able to walk in and see their craft, and with the addition of tours and classes, you’ll have the opportunity to do more than just look, shop, or eat.
It is said that, βLife is like a box of chocolates, you never know what youβre going to get,β and that especially rings true today as word is out that the iconic Chocolate Tree in downtown Beaufort will be reopening its doors this fall.
