“Broadway by Candlelight” Auditions

The Cat’s Meow is proud to present its first annual “Broadway by Candlelight”. Auditions will be by appointment on the following days:

Friday, October 16
Sunday, October 18
With Callbacks as necessary

To audition, you must be 16+ (preferably can drive yourself) and both an impressive soloist and someone who can sing harmony in a group or duet. I am unsure how many people I will cast. It will genuinely depend on what I think the best blend will be.

“Broadway by Candlelight”, which was largely successful in Atlanta, is a musical in honor of Valentine’s Day, but with a twist. All different types of love are represented – romantic love, of course, but also sisterly love, love for a pet, etc. Performers will be in black tie (ladies in black evening gowns and white opera gloves and gentlemen in tuxedos), and the entire production will be performed entirely by candlelight.

For auditions, I will give you a recommended song list, but also please feel free to sing a solo piece you think is appropriate for the show. Bonus points for clever songs about a non-romantic kind of love! I will also have you learn the harmony for a duet. Song list will be announced soon.

The show will be cast in October with the intention that the performers work on their music on their own and show up to rehearsals in January with everything memorized and ready to go. This will help us keep rehearsals to a minimum – I am hopeful that we can put the show up in approximately 4 rehearsals total, but that’s why it’s very important that auditioners be able to learn music on their own (with demo vocals I will provide) and/or with help from their vocal coach.

I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with. This is truly one of the funnest shows I have ever produced, and I am very excited about it being the first show performed in our soon-to-be black box theatre.
