S.C. State Parks will close for two days this week, on Wednesday and Thursday, so officials can go over new procedures that may need to be taken due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism announced on Monday it will close state parks temporarily this week, and that all 47 state parks will reopen on Friday.
Here in Beaufort that means no Hunting Island on Wednesday or Thursday.
Officials will be making decisions based on the consultation of public health officials and orders issued by S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster.
During a Monday afternoon press conference, McMaster directed law enforcement officers to prohibit or disperse any gathering or congregation of three people or more. It will be a misdemeanor if violated.
Park admission can now also be paid online, which helps visitors limit interaction with staff at the gates, and can provide for quicker lines on busier days.
