The Battery Creek High School Marching Band has achieved great success under Director, and alumni, Roderick Williams and this year they will be performing, via invitation, at the annual Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade.

They’re the first high school marching band from South Carolina to ever be invited to perform.

“The band has performed at local and regional parades, and this November they will be playing their biggest event yet: the award-winning Chicago Thanksgiving Parade,” a release by the parade committee said.

“For a band of just over 50 marchers, they pack a lot of excitement and ‘Dolphin Pride’ into their performance,” stated Phil Purevich, Executive Producer of the Chicago Thanksgiving Parade. “Battery Creek is a highly accomplished marching band, and we are excited to showcase this band from Beaufort on Thanksgiving morning.”

The Chicago Thanksgiving Parade will be televised live on WGN 9 on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28 from 9am to 12pm EST and it will also be streamed via WGN’s web site as well.

While not as old or as traditionally popular as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Chicago parade has been around, undergoing various changes, since 1934. It is watched in person by about 400,000 spectators and is viewed on television by approximately 4 million viewers.

It’s a pretty big deal.

Congrats to the students and their parents and to Battery Creek High School.
