More good things are being said about Beaufort. Popular retirement planning website TopRetirements.com has named Beaufort, SC one of the top places to retire in the Southeast in a recently published list.

In bestowing the #4 spot to Beaufort, one spot ahead of Charleston, the website said that “the Old South lives on in the quaint seaside charm of Beaufort, known as the Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands.”

Important to its users, the site plugged the dozens of active and 55+ communities to choose from here in the area.

TopRetirements.com finds and rates retirement communities. In making its rankings, it looks at things to do, activities, crime rates, housing prices, medical facilities, restaurants and the local cultural scene in addition to other factors.

TopRetirements says Beaufort is a “popular retirement community” and goes into a bit of history; “discovered by the Spanish in 1514 and chartered by the British in 1711, 304 acres of the town have been designated as a National Historic Landmark. That history is reflected in the horse-drawn carriages that roll along streets in the town’s charming historic district that are overhung with Spanish moss.”

“The area offers a laid back atmosphere that most people find very relaxing.”
