The Civil War was one of the most formative and influential events in the history of our country and South Carolina played a key role in the development and end of the war with thousands of Union soldiers during establishing their home base on Hilton Head Island.
Find out why they were here, how they spent their time, and how that influenced all that followed. Historic photographs, maps and artifacts tell the story of Hilton Head during the Civil War Era from 1861-1865.
