After opening in early 2019 as downtown Beaufort’s only Greek restaurant, Mezes Mediterranean Grill has announced that it is now permanently closing its doors.
The restaurant made the announcement in a Tuesday night Facebook post, although no reason for the sudden closure was given.
“After much consideration and thought we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Mezes,” the post said. “We want to sincerely thank our amazing Mezes team members, our valued customers and our community for their love and support.”
The post also added that there would be an Everything Must Go Sale on Saturday December 19th from 10am – 2pm. See the full post from Mezes here.
The restaurant has been closed since mid-October. A posting at the time said the restaurant was “taking a COVID break.” The new spot had also closed in March when the COVID-19 shutdown went into effect and then reopened in early May.
Mezes Mediterranean Grill opened in early 2019 in the Port Republic Street spot that was the former longtime home of the popular Emily’s Restaurant & Tapas Bar. Mezes offered a fantastic menu of Greek dips, salads, entrees and specialties, along with a nice list of Greek wines.
Fans of Greek restaurant fare in Beaufort can still visit Athenian Gardens on Ribaut Road.
We’re sad to see them close, and we wish the best to the owners and employees in their future endeavors here in Beaufort SC.
