In the Lowcountry and Sea Islands of Beaufort SC we eat a different way with our Lowcountry recipes, and we sure do like it. In our local dishes, French and West African culinary traditions came together to build a cuisine based on rice and the area’s abundant seafood. Historically, in addition to the local agriculture, folks used what the water surrounding our sea islands gave them: shrimp, fish, oysters, blue crabs, clams and more.
As a special treat, we were delighted to receive license for several recipes from popular local Daufuskie Island Gullah cook, Sallie Anne Robinson, and we have some of her best dishes highlighted here in our Lowcountry Recipe guide. Sallie Anne has published three amazing Gullah cookbooks and you will find a link within each of her recipes.
Let’s look at the best of Lowcountry cooking. Hit the link for the recipe you want so you can eat like a Beaufort local right in your own kitchen, no matter which part of the country you may live.
