Beaufort is getting a new BBQ option next month and a familiar spot is getting a new look.
Skeeter’s Southern BBQ plans to open its doors on Market Street in Habersham in mid-April bringing their own unique brand and taste of BBQ to the area.
Based in Savannah, Skeeter’s has been operating a food truck and has been a popular fixture at festivals and events across the Southeastern U.S. for a number of years offering BBQ plates as well as their own brand of sauces and rubs.
“We’re excited to bring our authentic BBQ and our brand to Beaufort,” Skeeter’s owner Jonathan Brinsfield said.
“I feel that we’re bringing something special to Beaufort with Skeeters; not just another BBQ joint, but a true experience every time you walk through the door,” he added.
Brinsfield plans for Skeeter’s to be open for both lunch and dinner. Its menu will consist of several southern BBQ favorites including St. Louis-style ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken, smoked meats and brisket, among other offerings.
If you’re a fan of local BBQ, you’ll know that good brisket is difficult to find. Jonathan told us that he’s been told that Skeeter’s brisket is special and many folks say it’s the best they’ve ever had.
“Our pork, chicken and beef are crafted with a special blend of spices and are slowly smoked with a variety of wood, at a low temperature, adding natural flavor,” he said.
“We’ll also have an array of appetizers to choose from including our pork nachos.”
Rounding out their planned menu are all of the traditional BBQ sides you would expect including okra, collard greens, mac n cheese, baked beans and potato salad…just to name a few.
If dinner at Skeeter’s doesn’t give you the fix you need, Brinsfield’s wife, Jessie, is an experienced baker and is preparing an extensive dessert menu, in true southern style, with homemade banana pudding, key lime pie, cobblers and more.
“I grew up having peach cobbler with BBQ, and as an adult I feel it’s a sin to not have banana pudding with it. At Skeeter’s you’ll have both,” Jonathan quipped.
The new restaurant plans to also offer an entertainment schedule with live music and other fun as well as monthly wine or bourbon dinners, pairing the right beverages with steaks and other fare.
Skeeter’s is taking over the spot that was home for several years to Maggie’s Pub & Eatery, which closed its doors after its most recent owner ended up in some trouble with local authorities last fall and eventually closed the business down.
You can get an idea of what Skeeter’s has to offer this weekend too.
“If you want to get a head’s up on our BBQ, visit the Beaufort Twilight Run this Saturday in Habersham. We’ll be there outside of the restaurant offering samples to folks who come by to say hello.”
We’re looking forward to Skeeter’s opening soon. And, we’re sure you are as well.
