New USCB themed restaurant, cafe to open at Newcastle Square

This July, the Sand Shark Tank will be opening in Uptown Beaufort’s Newcastle Square serving up goodies in the spot formerly home to Herban Marketplace.

The new cafe will focus on serving locals who want a quick bite and also on the local USCB students that will be filling the brand new dorms right next door on Boundary Street.

The restaurant is the idea of Zack Manley, the local founder/owner of The Cracked Egg restaurant chain, Jaspers Bar & Grill and co-owner of the new Coastal Smoothie in downtown Beaufort.

“With the new dorms going up for USCB on Boundary Street there aren’t many choices for the kids in terms of where to go and grab something quick to eat no matter what time of day,” Manley said. “We’ll offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and a variety of drinks while giving them a place to go and hang out and mingle with each other and with locals, too.”

The menu will have plenty of offerings that college kids want including some quick breakfast items along with a variety of sandwiches, salads and wraps; all served up in a cafe atmosphere, complete with wifi.

On the beverage side of things, the ‘Tank’ will offer coffees, espressos, fraps and teas, along with sodas, a variety of juices, energy drinks and even meal replacement shakes.

Menu items of note include a grilled peanut butter & jelly sandwich, loaded Belgian waffles, cheese steaks and kombucha.

“Most kids now have to go into downtown to get anything,” Manley added. “We’re putting in a spot they’ll enjoy right next door to them and we’re looking forward to a great partnership with the students and with USCB.”

Plans are to also have outdoor seating and bicycle racks, and Manley also said that he hopes to decorate the interior with a time line of the history of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort, which has a story that goes back to its founding in 1795.

Expect the new eatery to open near the end of July after renovations are completed.
