We love our parties here in Beaufort and the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s annual Night on the Sound gala is always one to look forward to each fall.
This year’s presentation at the event will be given by none other than Dr. Robert Ballard, famed Oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer who has discovered the sunken remains of the R.M.S. Titanic, the German battleship Bismarck, and the U.S. WWII aircraft carrier Yorktown on ocean floors throughout the world.
He is also currently on expedition in an attempt to solve one of the 20th Century’s biggest mysteries: finding Amelia Airhart’s missing plane that disappeared back in 1937. On August 7th, Ballard departed from Samoa in the Pacific Ocean for Nikumaroro, an uninhabited island that’s part of the Micronesian nation of Kiribati. The expedition is being filmed by National Geographic for a two-hour documentary airing on October 20th, the day after the gala.
The event is the biggest event of the year for the Foundation and supports its efforts to protect the waters and marine life in Port Royal Sound and continued efforts to educate and ‘wow’ the public at its hands-on Maritime Center.
Attendees of the gala will enjoy an amazing presentation by Dr. Ballard, cocktails, dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction.
Also, a limited number of VIP tickets are available and include a 1.5 hour cruise on the Chechessee River with Dr. Ballard, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a seated dinner with the presentation.
Of course, the gala sells out every year.
As we’ve said, we do love our parties here in Beaufort.
