Port Royal is going to get a bit tastier next year with a new Salt Marsh Brewing restaurant spot, and the town will have plenty of drink to brag about as well.

Salt Marsh Brewing, a local craft brewery, is expanding operations and taking over the 11,000 square foot 11th Street waterfront building next to FishCamp that is currently used to process seafood.

Plans are to build out a restaurant and brewery in the same spot that will include an outdoor upper deck for dining. The facility will house the brewery, a tap room and a full service restaurant.

The $4.5 million investment is projected to create approximately 43 new jobs.

Founded in 2013, by Nick Borreggine, owner of Fat Patties in Beaufort and Bluffton, Salt Marsh Brewing is committed to brewing beers invoking true Southern hospitality and the Lowcountry lifestyle. With the new spot located at 1111 11th Street in Port Royal, Salt Marsh Brewing’s second location will be fully-equipped with a brew house and an automated canning line and extensive fruited sour beer program.

“When my wife and I discussed where we spent a lot of time, we realized every weekend we were headed to Port Royal,” said Salt Marsh Brewing co-owner Nick Borreggine. “We are excited about the future of Port Royal and growing our business there. We appreciate the support we received from the Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation and the town of Port Royal throughout the process,” he added.

There will also be an outdoor deck and a dock for boats to visit the restaurant and brew house.

The new Salt Marsh Brewing restaurant, brewery and tap room will open up here in about 16 months.

“Across South Carolina, all types of businesses are thriving, and today’s announcement by Salt Marsh Brewing is a testament to that. We congratulate this local company on their success and look forward to watching them continue to grow in South Carolina for years to come,” McMaster said.

“I have had the pleasure of seeing this project in the process,” Beaufort County Council Member Alice Howard said.  “It’s great to see the investor work with the Beaufort County Economic Development Corporation. This project is a win for Beaufort County, for Port Royal, our residents and visitors who are increasingly discovering Port Royal.”
