The weekend is here and there’s lots of fun things to do all around the Beaufort area with tons of events going on as well. With the arrival of October, things are getting pretty fun across the Lowcountry.

The weather looks like it might decide to be cooperative for a beautiful weekend, with highs in the low to mid-80s and a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain coming our way.

With decent weather, get out and explore the outdoors a bit. Hunting Island Beach might just be the thing you need this weekend, and it’s unlikely the kids will complain. Visit the park to see the rebuilt fishing pier, and bring your rod and reel for an extended stay. Or, you could explore some of our local historic spots, there sure are enough of them. This is Beaufort SC, after all.

Walk the sacred grounds of the Sheldon Church, explore Fort Fremont and the semi-secret beach at Lands End, pay a visit to the Cypress Wetlands in Port Royal and marvel at the diverse nature here in the Lowcountry.

Enjoy some fall fun and visit a local pumpkin patch. they’re all over the area. Nothing says fall fun like visiting one of our local pumpkin patches to find the perfect gourd. Here’s a few of them to help make things easier for you, some even with corn mazes, hay rides and lots more to offer.

What’s going on around Beaufort?

There’s a full slate of events planned across the area this weekend, and there’s definitely something going on for everyone.

Start your Saturday off with a visit to the Port Royal Farmers Market at the Naval Heritage Park in Port Royal. It runs from 9am to 12pm and you’ll find a fantastic selection of local produce, seafood, homemade cheeses & breads, honey and lots of other goodies.

Spend part of your morning with Beaufort County and the Beaufort Aviation Association. They’re hosting a 5K run along with a display of vintage World War II aircraft at its open house at the Lady’s Island Airport until 1pm. The open house features the Flying Frog 5K race starting at 730am, a welcome tent with exhibitors, aircraft displays on the tarmac and WWII vintage aircraft. Here’s a link if you need more information.

There’s a fun-filled Saturday all day and all evening planned at the annual Beaufort Food Truck Festival in Port Royal. The event offers food trucks of all varieties from all over the area selling their best fare, along with live music and DJs, tons of games, arts & crafts vendors and an interactive kid’s zone.

If you’re looking to put on your fancy clothes, then you’ll definitely have fun joining the Historic Beaufort Foundation for Libations With Lafayette; an evening garden party underneath the oaks along the banks of the Beaufort River in the gardens of the George Moss Stoney House, ca. 1825. This enchanting evening includes music with The Rising Tide band, heavy hors d’oeuvres and, of course, plenty of libations.

If you prefer to do something indoors on Saturday morning instead, take the kids to check out the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s Maritime Center and learn about alligators. They’re hosting an event to teach kids all about them starting at 1030am.

If you’re spending time south of the Broad River, there’s lots to do in Bluffton & Hilton Head, too.

The Hilton Head Kiwanis Club is hosting its 36th Annual Chili Cookoff  to benefit local youth charities at the Coastal Discovery Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Oktoberfest is coming to Southern Barrel Brewing in Bluffton on Saturday. They’ll be having fun and games all day with costume contests, yodeling competitions, beer stein holding contests and lots more.

Also, you can enjoy a free concert Saturday night on Hilton Head. The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band is presenting Heritage Brass, a free concert with its pioneering symphonic brass ensemble. Bringing the military tradition of brass, percussion, and vocals to the concert stage from 7 to 830pm at the Main Street Theatre at Hilton Head Prep.

Enjoy one of these Saturday community events…or, just say ‘no’ to the crowds and Explore Beaufort SC on your own.

As you can see, there’s plenty to do all over the Beaufort area and there’s always something for everyone. Keep up with all the local Beaufort SC events on our Explore Beaufort Event Calendar…and have a great weekend!
