They’re back! Yet another Shark Tooth Treasure Hunt has been scheduled in Port Royal on May 4th.

It’s a local tradition for kids to hunt for sharks teeth at The Sands in Port Royal. But, successful hunts can sometimes be few and far between. Before handing the project over to another organizer last year, Mike Harris, affectionately known as the ‘Shark Tooth Fairy’, knows the thrill of the hunt all too well and has hosted several organized hunts for kids over the past several years. In fact, this is about the ninth time we’ve had one with volunteers and organizers burying and scattering hundreds of shark teeth and fossils so local children can discover them.

And this next scheduled event is going to be another big one. So big, that they’re again calling it the ‘Shark Tooth Frenzy’.

Audrey Flores with Shark Teeth Expeditions in Charleston has taken over where the Shark Tooth Fairy, Mike Harris, has left off to help pull off the event. Audrey, whose father was U.S. Navy diver and has been involved with sharks teeth all of her life, works for the March of Dimes and sees these events as a great way to raise awareness and donates some of the proceeds to their mission of leading the fight for the health of all moms and babies.

“We’re excited that Mike will be there to enjoy it with us for the second year in a row,” Audrey said. “Creating these memories with your family is what Shark Teeth Expeditions is all about and these events help make it even more memorable. Thank you to everyone that is supporting the upcoming Shark Tooth Frenzy on May 4th, we wouldn’t be able to do it without parents like you, your shark tooth loving kids…and their imaginations.”

This year, there is a toddler section for the little ones.

“The toddler section has teeth that range from 1″ to 4″ Megalodon sharks teeth with an arrangement of other fossils and arrow heads,” Audrey said. “This is the only section we replenish sporadically throughout the event since the teeth are easily found. We want your kids and family to have fun and feel safe at our Shark Tooth Frenzy so if you feel your 5 – 7 year old would be more comfortable in the toddlers section, that is more than fine as well,” she added.

The hunt is scheduled from 930am to 130pm on May 4th at The Sands in Port Royal.

Proceeds of the hunt will benefit the March of Dimes and only 2,000 tickets are a available for the upcoming event.

Tickets are free for children 12 and under, and $30 for kids aged 13 and up.
